A new kind of alternative keyboard

Flexiboard is an entirely new alternative keyboard with a built-in optical overlay-detection method — the keyboard always detects which overlay is placed on top of the keyboard. Because overlays can be changed without commands to the computer, the user can handle a large range of overlays independently!

The Flexiboard does not require any active program in order to work. The computer perceives it as any other keyboard — and it works with any computer, operating system and program that uses an ordinary "IBM-compatible" keyboard. No special programs are needed to move the Flexiboard from computer-to-computer.

The Flexiboard offers work independence for those with developmental disabilities.

The Flexiloader software for creating overlays is included with the Flexiboard. The pressure sensitivity of each overlay is adjustable to accommodate different types of functional disabilities.

Here's an application idea

Once the overlays are stored in the Flexiboard, it can be moved to any other PC (Windows) and function as its keyboard.

Set up the Flexiboard on a computer to have the key configuration desired. Use pictures, if you like, to make large, graphic overlays. Program the Flexiboard to output strings of text instead of just individual characters. Selections on the Flexiboard will be sent to the PC and will be entered to the PC programs.

Since the Flexiboard reads the overlay code from the top of the overlay, the user can change overlays independently and even stack them. Flexiboard always reads the top overlay.

Flexiboard is an alternative keyboard that is connected to the USB port of a PC. Built-in optical overlay recognition automatically detects which overlay is used. Over 100 different overlays can be available for use once the keyboard command set is sent to the Flexiboard. The Flexiloader software allows simple creation of tailored overlays, with both text and pictures, that can be printed. The unit is A3 size and has 128 squares. The number of keys, acceptance delay and repetition rate can be programmed for each overlay individually. Requires Windows 98 2nd ed., 2000, XP, Vista, or Win-7. ACCESS Flexi is a wireless alternative keyboard for PC and environmental control. The optical overlay recognition and overlay creation is identical to the FlexiBoard. The built-in programmable infrared remote control makes it possible to control all functions that are included in the Gewa "Smart House" concept and to learn codes from other remote control units. Requires Windows 98 2nd ed., 2000, XP, Vista, or Win-7.
